About

Evangeline Dennie, LEED AP, AIGA, Assoc. AIA founded her LLC in 2004 as a multi-disciplinary design firm encompassing architecture, interiors and graphics, as well as consensus-driven goal setting and implementation for environmental sustainability.

High performance design is fundamental to Dennie's architecture, furniture, products and interiors. She investigates spatial concepts, materials, objects, imagery, landscapes, and light to evoke an emotional response from her designs while measuring the environmental impact of design decisions. Her architectural and interior designs include memorial, gallery, hospitality, corporate, non-profit, and residential.

Dennie designed the prototype for a nation-wide chain of eco-friendly restaurants, called Green Canteen. The Mediterranean style restaurant opened in 2009 and was designed to achieve LEED CI Silver Certification. From design through project management, she served as the architectural, interior, and custom furniture designer, as well as the LEED consultant.

The Oulu Bar and EcoLounge was recognized in the media for the first living wall in Brooklyn in 2008. The design was featured in the book published by Braun, called 1000x Landscape Architecture, on the cover of Hospitality Design Magazine (Greening the Bar, March, 2008) and featured in several magazines and blogs.

Dennie's most important design was the concept and layout for the Interim Memorial at Ground Zero, called the Tribute Center (2006). The space was intended to be a temporary memorial and educational gallery located at the WTC site, until the official memorial was to be built. However, its poignant ability to evoke a cathardic experience for people who visit has earned it permanent residence for years to come. Dennie helped to develop its mission statement with the 9/11 Victims and Families Association by keeping the minutes for over a dozen meetings, then organized the themes for the design. She developed the experiencial order of spaces for visitors, creating a design narrative, proposed dozens of layouts for 3,000+ names of the victims who perished, and documented hundreds of artifacts recovered from the WTC site at the JFK hanger through photos. She designed the project from schematic design through development and coordinated the project's product specifications to make the Tribute Center as environmentally-friendly as possible.

Evangeline Dennie, LEED AP, AIGA, Assoc. AIA studied sustainability academically since the mid-90s and has been intimately involved in its implementation since 2003. Dennie worked with Hillary Brown, AIA, one of the main contributors to transforming New York City to the Big Green Apple. Together, they authored two 100+ page publications, High Performance Building Guidelines. Dennie collaborated with Brown and energy consultants to facilitate green design charrettes between the architects, engineers, landscape architects, and contractors at each design submission for 10+ new and renovated schools in New Haven, CT. Dennie also helped Brown to develop a documentary film about the green building process for non-profits for the Kresge Foundation and Non-Profit Finance Fund. Download Evangeline Dennie's resume.

Her recent green consulting services included Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project management for two Fortune 500 companies in Manhattan: Random House Bertelson, which utilized the LEED EB rating system to green their facilities management; and Morgan Stanley, which employed LEED CI for new commercial interiors by achieving a Silver Rating.
